What every small business should know now, not later

Have you considered how trademarks can add value to your business? Join the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Silicon Valley Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for a discussion about what all entrepreneurs, small business owners, and startups should know about trademarks.

Jason Lott, Managing Attorney for Trademarks Customer Outreach at the USPTO, will explore the different types of trademarks, including names, designs, logos, and trade dress.

Topics will include the following:

  • Explanation of trademarks
  • Benefits of federal trademark registration
  • Basics of the registration process

The USPTO will also discuss why it’s so important for any new business to select a trademark that is both federally registrable and legally protectable. They’ll close out the discussion with a question-and-answer session and direct you to free USPTO resources.

The Trademark basics session is available virtually and in person at the USPTO Silicon Valley Regional Office.
