USPTO-Demonstration of new Cloud Based Trademark Search System

Introducing the USPTO’s new cloud-based trademark search system with basic and advanced search options

As we recently noted, USPTO is improving search tools frequently used by patent and trademark filers and web visitors to provide a more multi-faceted, reliable search experience. To that end, they are excited to announce the launch of the beta version of our new trademark search system.   

This new, cloud-based search system will replace the current system (Trademark Electronic Search System, or TESS) to make searching for trademark registrations and/or applications easier – a necessary step for any aspiring or current business owner looking to protect their brand. The new system provides users with a stronger industry-standard search syntax and offers both a simplified, basic search interface as well as a more advanced search interface for more complex searching.  

Though customers may still use TESS, it will be permanently retired later this year, and USPTO will share the official retirement date in the next few months. To assist with the transition to the new search tool, USPTO is offering multiple virtual demonstrations and trainings to ensure comfort and familiarity with its use. Each session will cover system capabilities and end with a question-and-answer period

This fall, USPTO will be holding more formal training webinars on basic federal trademark searching and advanced federal trademark searching.  

Improvements are never done. USPTO welcomes your feedback on the beta release to help further strengthen the system. Look for the blue “feedback” button on the right side of the new trademark search system webpage to send suggestions.
